Everyone's Advocacy Is Needed as Budget Passing Gets Closer

May 21, 2024

As the need for mental healthcare, substance use treatment and support services continues to increase for all New Jersey residents and the state's behavioral healthcare workforce continues to be in a crisis situation, it is imperative that the FY2025 State Budget include significant increases for workers and programs.

NJAMHAA urges everyone to use its campaign, Diverse Faces: All Are Worthy of Full Investment, as well as their own success stories resulting from delivering or receiving behavioral healthcare services, in advocacy to their local legislators and on their websites and social media.

The campaign features several of the numerous examples of individuals' successes that were made possibly by behavioral healthcare and social services they received. Such individual victories also translate into benefits for the state overall.

“By making prevention, treatment and recovery supports available to all New Jersey residents, the state would benefit from the prevention of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, homelessness and individuals’ involvement in the criminal justice system,” said Debra L. Wentz, PhD, President and CEO of NJAMHAA.
